Mitch Reed’s Plan

Mitch Reed is running for the Okaloosa County School Board to focus on results-driven priorities, safer schools, protecting our tax dollars, and governance that leads to real student outcomes.

Classroom Learning

Student Success

As a father of five and a grassroots community leader, I believe every child in Okaloosa County deserves a high-quality education that prepares them for success after graduation, whether in the workforce, college, a skilled trade, the military, or starting a business.

Student success starts with safety and well-being. I will work to combat cyberbullying, promote healthy habits, and build strong school environments where students and educators can thrive.

To keep up with school choice and a changing education system, we must empower principals and school leaders with greater decision-making authority while maintaining strong standards and accountability. This approach reduces bureaucracy, encourages innovation, and keeps decisions closest to the classroom.

I will work to expand skill-based learning, expand trade skill programs, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) while strengthening partnerships with local businesses, military installations, and key industries so students gain real-world skills and certifications for high-demand jobs. By supporting our teachers and maintaining strong financial accountability, we can ensure taxpayer dollars are spent on proven priorities.

Together, we can ensure Okaloosa’s students graduate with practical skills, strong values, and the support they need to succeed.

Improve Benefits & Empower Educators and Staff

Mitch Reed believes that attracting and retaining great educators and support staff starts with competitive benefits, meaningful resources, and strong support, so they can focus on what they do best: serving our students and investing in their futures.

To truly empower them, we must decentralize decision-making power from central county administration to school principals and key community stakeholders, who know their schools, students, and local needs best. This site-based approach gives principals authority and flexibility to lead effectively, reduce unnecessary bureaucracy, and respond quickly to on-the-ground realities.

This balanced, engaged leadership model honors our educators, respects our communities, and delivers the strong governance and educational excellence our children and taxpayers deserve, facilitating a positive culture where everyone desires to contribute to student success.

Student Safety

Mitch Reed will prioritize protecting our students by strengthening school security measures and confronting bullying and cyberbullying head-on through modern, evidence-based best practices.

He will advocate to empower teachers and staff with comprehensive training, clear authority to intervene, and the resources needed to maintain a respectful environment while enforcing meaningful, fair consequences for harmful actions to ensure accountability at every level.

Emphasis will be placed on promoting relevant digital citizenship education, accurate and safe reporting channels, community-wide involvement (including parents and students as active partners), proactive supervision, and tirelessly working to ensure Okaloosa County does everything within its’ ability to LEAD a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment where every child, family member, and staff member can thrive without fear of physical threats, psychological harm, or online harassment.

Skills to Thrive

Mitch Reed believes every student should graduate with a marketable set of skills, and that we must help our educators define marketability in a competitive global economy. This means bringing in industry subject matter experts, investing in skill-based programs like career technical education, trades, and other initiatives that prepare students for real-world success, whether they choose college, trades, or immediately enter the workforce.

He is committed to equipping every high school graduate with the skills to succeed and thrive by prioritizing skills, critical thinking, and industry-recognized certifications and best practices that align with current and future workforce needs.

This means aligning our school district with local, regional, national, and even global workforce needs based on real data, input, and subject matter expertise. He is wholly committed to ensuring that students earn valuable credentials, gain practical experience, and develop essential employability skills so they graduate ready to build rewarding careers, support their families, and contribute to our community's growth, retain local talent, and all while protecting taxpayers' investments by providing real accountability and measurable results.
